Hey there! Are you looking to disable product reviews on your BigCommerce store? I’ll show you how to do that. My name is Kal, I’m a developer who builds BigCommerce stores, and I’m also a store owner. I create these videos to help people like you.
Before I show you how to turn off reviews, I want to say I don’t recommend disabling them. Product reviews are some of the best user-generated content you can have. If you’re doing PPC (Pay-Per-Click) advertising, having reviews streamed into your ads helps get clicks.
However, if you still want to proceed, here’s how to do it. Let’s get started!
(00:26)
Also, if you don’t like the built-in reviews and want something better, I recommend using Stamped.io. It’s a great alternative. If you need help setting it up, feel free to reach out to me.
Turning Off Reviews: Step-by-Step
Step 1: Locate the Review Section on Your Product Page
On your BigCommerce product page, you’ll see a section that says No reviews yet. Write a review. When users click it, a modal appears to write a review. By default, anyone can write a review, but you can also configure it so only logged-in users can leave reviews. This might solve your issue without disabling reviews entirely.
Step 2: Disabling Reviews in Settings
(01:23) Go to Settings.
Under Settings, find Comments.
Under Products, you’ll see Product Reviews.
Uncheck the box and click Save.
Now, if you refresh your product page, you’ll see the review section is gone. (Personally, I think you need those reviews, but they’re gone if that’s what you want!)
(02:07)
But wait, there’s one more step before you leave. You’ll want to turn off the emails that go out for review solicitation.
Step 3: Turn Off Review Emails
(02:37) Go to Miscellaneous under General.
In the Miscellaneous tab, you’ll see Product Review Emails.
Turn that off and click Save.
(02:57)
That’s it! Again, I don’t recommend turning off reviews. They’re important, and I personally recommend Stamped.io over the native BigCommerce reviews feature.
