Hello! Are you having trouble finding your store hash, or do you have a developer asking you for it, and you’re not sure what they’re talking about? In this video, I’m going to explain what your store hash is in BigCommerce and how to find it.

Let’s talk about the store hash. What is it?
The store hash is something that developers, APIs, and third-party systems use to connect to your site. Every store on BigCommerce has a unique store hash. It’s a string of numbers and letters that identifies your store, sort of like a permanent address.
There are a couple of ways to find your store hash. One way is through your manage.bigcommerce.com account, but not many people look for it there. The easiest way to get it is right in your browser’s address bar when you’re logged into BigCommerce.
(01:08)
Here’s how you find it:
When you log into BigCommerce, you’ll see a URL in your address bar, like store-6vQ1K.mybigcommerce.com. The part after store- is your store hash. This is what developers need to connect to your store. Each store has its own unique URL and store hash.
If you have multiple stores, each will have a different store hash. Usually, a developer will ask for it when they need to connect to your store via the API.
(01:44)
Speaking of APIs, another way to get your store hash is through an API account. When you create an API account, the store hash is included in the key that’s generated.
To create an API account, you need to log in as the store owner. You’ll know you’re logged in as the owner if you see the help pin in the bottom left corner. If not, log in with the owner account. Then, go to Advanced Settings > API Accounts and click on Create API Account.
(02:22)
If you’re creating the account for an app, select the security permissions it needs. For a developer working on the front end of your store, you can choose Stencil CLI Token. Name the account something memorable, like “Billy Bob’s Bargain Web Design.” This will help you identify it later if you need to delete the key.
Once you save it, BigCommerce will generate an API key and text file. The store hash will be inside that text file, or you can copy it from the screen.
(03:59)
Here’s what the API key looks like: It includes an access token, an ID, and a secret. The store hash will be in the API path, and it will match the store hash from your URL. This is how developers can connect to your store.
